This particular Grandbanks is unique because the front three window panels are made of tempered glass. The rest of the panels were made out of .080 acrylic and glued on. The customer wanted a product that was lighter and not as expensive as .080 acrylic. We suggested to them Makrolon polycarbonate which is .060 in thickness and not as heavy as acrylic. Also they wanted a fabric which does not fade as much as Sunbrella but was easy to clean. We mentioned that Stamoid has those properties and is also very strong. The were glad we had a product that geared exactly to what they were looking for. As to the front 3 panels, we made sure to keep the glass intact and use for the new enclosure.
We carefully began removing the old sunbrella from the glass while the rest of the enclosure was going to be manufactured by stitching the fabric together. Just as any project, it is a challenge to make sure all the lines match up but this project specifically was different as there are different measurements to take in consideration with the glass. On top of that it requires 48 hours of cure time to make sure the fabric and glass adhere properly. At the end, the customer was extremely pleased as how the white really opened up the view of the boat and upgrades the look!
